  The MCN Taiwan Collection Management System SIG strives to achieve effective management of museum collections via information technology, and engages in theory studies and practical exchanges of museum collection management systems as an active effort to boost the professional development of museum registration and management affairs, which can be further developed into professional communities. The SIG in 2010 has arranged three workshop series in Taichung, Taipei and Kaohsiung, hoping they will serve as a catalyst and platform for professional discussions, exchanges, support and learning related to museum collection registration and management.

 

  This workshop series (I) is jointly offered by the National Museum of Natural Science, Fu Jen Catholic University Graduate Institute of Museum Studies, and MCN Taiwan Collection Management System SIG, and will be held in the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, focusing on “practices of the registration and management of archeological and ethnical collections.” Associate Professor Mei Campbell, who is an anthropology and textile researcher at the Museum of Texas Tech University will visit Taiwan to engage in professional exchanges with domestic specialists and scholars, and lead archeology and ethnology related museum workers (including Dr. Kuei-Yu Yeh, Dr. Chuan-Kun Ho, Collection Manager Tzu-Chun Liao, Collection Manager Ke-Hung Liu and Research Assistant Mei-Jang Chern of the National Museum of Natural Science, Section Chief Tzu-Ning Li of the National Taiwan Museum, Editor Yu-Yun Lin of Academia Sinica Institute of History and Philology, and Assistant Research Fellow Pang-Yen Cheng of the National Palace Museum) through two days of workshop practices; collections of the National Museum of Natural Science for teaching purpose will be used for practices. These arrangements aim to enhance the collection registration and management competencies of domestic museum workers, and to provide an exchange platform that will broaden their international perspectives. Collection registration workers in public and private cultural institutions, members of the MCN Taiwan Collection Management System SIG, members of the Chinese Association of Museums Collection Security and Protection Committee, and anyone who is interested in this topic is welcome to apply for participation.

 

  The MCN Taiwan “Collection Management System SIG” strives to achieve effective management of museum collections via information technology, and engages in theory studies and practical exchanges of museum collection management systems as an active effort to boost the professional development of museum registration and management affairs, which can be further developed into professional communities. You are welcome to discuss “collection management system” related topics, or share your opinions of related books on this forum.

 

Notes:
1. This activity provides 12 hours on the lifelong learning passport of civil servants.
2. Participants of any two practical workshops (accumulate at least 18 hours) will receive course certificates, which can be used to apply to the Council for Cultural Affairs for Museum Professional Course Certificate.
